One of the biggest profit-killing mistakes that salon and spa owners make is to let burnout dictate how much money they make.

Your passion should be fueling your profits, not destroying them!

The moment you let your passion fizzle out is the moment that your beauty biz starts to leak money.

Watch this video to learn how to rekindle your passion for what you do:

If you’re like most salon and spa owners, you spend all your time pampering your clients, and little to no time for yourself… ever. But as the owner of a business, it’s especially important to set that time aside, because if you’re not running well, then your business won’t be running well.

Schedule self-care in your calendar. (Seriously)

If you don’t have the time for it, you won’t do it. So make time for it. Truly, it’s that simple.

Ready to get refreshed? Here are 7 more tips to prioritize YOU:

1. EXERCISE DAILY

You have to take care of your body if you want to feel at the top of your game. If you’re new to the exercise thing, then start out with a daily walk. Then increase the amount of time you walk and the intensity. (Personally, I’m a big fan of spin class.)

2. LEARN TO SAY NO

This is a big one. It’s easy to feel like you have to do everything. You don’t! If you have a client who wants to schedule during your me-time, then let them know that you’re unavailable, but perhaps another time later in the week is better. (Psst! It’s also easier to say no when you surround yourself with a great team. Delegate!)

3. FIND WAYS TO UNWIND EVERY DAY

Self-care isn’t something that we need once a month. It’s something we need daily. I’m not saying that you need a 2 hour massage every day, but do something that helps you relax. It can be as simple as eating a meal uninterrupted or reading a book before bed.

4. NOURISH YOUR BODY

Same as with exercise, we need to take care of our bodies by giving ourselves good fuel. I’m not saying that you need to be the next Jillian Michaels, but make sure you’re getting in your veggies and doing your best to snack on healthy treats. Keep your salon/spa stocked with foods that are good for you and your staff.

5. ENJOY A HOBBY

You are more than just your business. This is something that every business owner needs to remember. Find something that fills you up other than just the work that you do. And believe it or not, having other hobbies will help fuel your passion for your salon/spa!

6. MAKE SLEEP A PRIORITY

Look, it’s science. You’re not going to be functioning well if you don’t get enough sleep. Plus, you’ll probably be crankier and your staff won’t want to be around you. Schedule in sleep if you have to!

7. BE IN THE MOMENT

You know, especially with our phones these days, it can be easy to have our minds somewhere else when there’s other things going on right in front of us. Don’t check your email and social media constantly. Spend time with your clients and staff. You’ll start noticing things that you overlooked before. And when you’re having me-time, it’ll let you be more present. Make every moment with your friends and family count. This will nourish your soul. Trust me.

It’s not easy prioritizing yourself when you’ve made it a habit of putting everything into your business and everyone else around you. That’s why we created a Note to Self Activity for you to download that will help commit you to yourself.
