Happy Holidays! If you’re like me, you’re still finding it hard to believe that it’s nearing the end of 2018.

While the holidays can be a busy time of year for us in the salon/spa, you still need to set concrete plans for your 2018 marketing plan. It’s not too late to create your plan of action and knock 2018 out of the park!

As I go around the country and speak with salon/spa owners, I find that most of them “wing it” when it comes to their marketing planning. We often wait until a week or even a few days are left to acknowledge a marketing opportunity around holidays or events. Let’s say it’s the beginning of May and someone mentions Mother’s Day is around the corner. We think to ourselves, oh wow… Mother’s Day, I guess we should put together a promotion and create some salon/spa signage. The problem with this approach is you’re not setting your marketing opportunity up for success.

To prevent last-minute marketing, I suggest that you create a marketing calendar with important milestones. Creating a strict calendar for the coming year can be tricky, so it’s best to schedule out what you can. Start with major things, like big holidays, new product launches, customer appreciations, and events. From there, identify all the tools you need to promote these marketable events, such as emails, press releases, in-salon/spa signage. Once I have the calendar created I like to set a target date to have all pieces of the plan together. This will keep you on task and prevent the last-minute “oh wow’s” from taking over.
