As a business coach, one of the most common challenges I see in our industry is service providers not knowing their professional worth. I often wonder why a select few are able to charge premium prices for their services, while so many salon professionals struggle to make ends meet.
It starts with knowing your self-worth. After all, you are a licensed professional and the services that you perform transform people; you give them confidence, you help create their personal image, and you make them look and feel beautiful. The reality is that what you do on a daily basis is priceless.
So, the question remains: Why do so many struggle when it comes to knowing their self-worth? The answer is… it’s your mindset! It’s the negative self-talk that we have with ourselves coupled with a lifetime of fear.
Let’s start with those negative internal conversations that one has with themselves; “I’m no good,” “I could never charge those prices,” “My clients would never pay that,” “I don’t live in a big city,” etc. These negative thoughts are holding you back.
The next is fear. Fear are those stories that we tell ourselves; it’s much like negative self-talk. It’s the story “if I raise my prices I’ll lose my clients.” This fear of losing clients and fear of change often prevents us from charging our real worth.
To change your worth begins with changing your mindset. Transform negative self-talk into positive self-talk. It starts with you knowing your self-worth.

The answer is NO. They know their value and they know how important their role is in making their customers feel and look their very best. They know that what they do on a daily basis makes a difference in their customers’ lives. They know they are unique and irreplaceable. It’s important that you remember you are the professional, and just like any other professional you deserve to be compensated accordingly for your services.
